Rob and Bailey visited The Hut
Rob and Bailey went to meet Emma, the team, and some of the service users at The Hut in York today.
The Hut is a members-led charity in York, that brings creativity and purpose to the lives of adults with their mental health journeys, and/or learning disabilities. They support individuals, both long and short-term. They do this by providing workshops, sessions, and activities, designed by members, as well as offering coaching, guidance, and support on daily lifeskills.
Set up in 2011, it was created in response to an increasing need for day facilities in York. Since 2015 Emma has been the Service Manager, working alongside her is her team and a board of Trustees who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fields of Mental Health and Learning Disabilities.
The purpose of the visit was to donate a defibrillator to the team and to get a better understanding of how The Hut operates.
“It was really nice to come down and meet Emma, and to speak to some of the service users about their experiences and the impact The Hut has on their lives. As we arrived, the group was gardening in the sunshine, preparing the ground to plant some flowers. Emma’s passion and dedication is infectious – she is so committed, which made us want to get involved in any way we can” – Bailey, Sales Manager.
And as a result, Rob and Bailey will now be raising sponsorship for The Hut, when they run the Leeds 10K in May!
Being a small charity based in York like a lot of other charities money is tight. Thank you to Training at Work Group who have kindly donated a defibrillator to The Hut. We now know that our members are safe in the knowledge that should something happen we can teach them what to do and save lives!
